Porter Hedges’ Construction Law Group continues to be the leading practice in Texas. Below are a few updates on our collective achievements over the last several months.
State Bar of Texas Construction Leadership
Sean McChristian was recently appointed the new Legislative Affairs Advisor for the State Bar of Texas Construction Law Section. Sean joins Allison Snyder (Journal Editor) and Amy Wolfshohl (Council Member) on the Council. In addition to this significant leadership presence, both David Peden and Allison Snyder have previously served as Chairs of the Construction Section.
Co-Chair of the TerraLex International Law Firm Network
Amy Wolfshohl was recently named Co-Chair of the Construction & Infrastructure Practice Group for Terralex, an international network of more than 19,000 attorneys in 155 leading independent law firms in more than 100 countries. Members of this practice group are involved in all facets of construction and infrastructure projects.
Chapter on Fraud in Construction Projects
John Hawkins and David Peden co-authored a chapter in the Construction Law Update 2019 Edition entitled “Fraud in Construction Projects: Broken Promises, Half-Truths, and Lies.” This best-selling national publication has been one of the most referenced resources for 25 years in the construction law industry.
Ranked Among the Best Construction Practices in Texas
- Chambers USA has once again recognized Porter Hedges’ Construction Practice among the leading practices in Texas (Band 1) in its 2019 law firm rankings. This client driven survey has named Porter Hedges as a top construction firm in Texas for fifteen consecutive years, more than any other firm in the state. According to Chambers, the construction group is an “[o]utstanding team noted for its handling of all aspects of construction projects in such areas as the commercial, energy and industrial fields.”
Individual acknowledgment as “Leaders in Their Field” for the Construction Practice in Texas were received by David Peden (Band 1), Allison Snyder (Band 2), John Hawkins (Band 3), and Amy Wolfshohl (Up and Coming). David Peden and Allison Snyder were also recognized for being leaders in the Texas Construction: Alternative Dispute Resolution category (Band 1).
- The Construction Practice was also recognized among the nation's leading construction firms by The Legal 500. In its 2019 guide, The Legal 500 ranked Porter Hedges in the Construction (including construction litigation) category and recommended six attorneys, including David Peden, Allison Snyder, John Hawkins, Nick Simms, Amy Wolfshohl, and Heather Hatfield.
- Construction Executive, the leading magazine covering the business of construction, recognized Porter Hedges among the nation's “Top 50 Construction Law Firms” in its June 2019 issue.
Board Certified Construction Lawyers
Amy Wolfshohl and Sean McChristian are both certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Construction Law. In addition, Amy is on the drafting committee for this year’s certification exam. David Peden was on the drafting committee for the inaugural exam in 2016.
